I have been teaching English to Japanese speakers for over 11 years and I lived in Japan for 4 years.
My teaching career began when, in the winter of 1998, I took an intensive TEFL certificate course in Boston.
Shortly thereafter, in January 1999, I moved to Gumma Prefecture in Japan. I taught English to children at a small local conversation school and also taught private lessons to adults on my days off.
In January 2002 I moved to Tokyo and taught both school-based and private lessons until 2005.
After I returned to New York, I set up my own tutoring service, Eigolessons, which caters to Japanese business clientele and their families.
During my time as an English tutor in New York I have seen a real need for a specialized tutoring service that caters to the large number of Japanese professionals who are relocated here each year.
I believe that students of English progress much faster when learning from people who understand their cultural background or who have some knowledge of their native language and how that relates to English learning difficulties.
That's why I created Eigolessons for the Japanese business community and their families.
